The painting could fetch up to $80,000.
A painting of a champion Chocolate Labrador has been given an antiques valuation of between $60,000 (£38,991) and $80,000.
The item - which was created by Maud Earl and is set to go under the hammer at Bonhams in New York next year - of Peter of Faskally, is going on display in London before the sale in February 2011.
The pooch is believed to have fathered 32 field trial champions and is the original blood line for all present day Chocolate Labradors.
Laura Turnbull, of Bonhams 19th Century Pictures department, said the auctioneer is "extremely excited" it can sell off such an artwork.
She added: "Impressive in both size and content, this painting encapsulates all that is exceptional about Maud Earl. An inherent understanding of her subject is combined with a grandeur that befits such an important dog."
This comes after a collection of pieces by ex-Dundee United footballer and artist John Huston was sold for £35,000, the Edinburgh Evening News reported.
