Having studied the History of Visual Arts and Design at University, he spent nine years working for Sotheby's as a ceramics and glass cataloguer and specialist in 20th century decorative arts & design. Later he went on to become Manager of the Ceramics and glass department and Head of Decorative Arts at Bonhams, Knightsbridge, London.
He then went on to study an MA in the History of Ceramics after which he became a lecturer in Ceramics and Design History at Loughborough University School of Art & Design. At the same time he wrote the first of seven published books on British and French Decorative Arts and Design, as well as publishing many articles on the same subjects. He has also been a vettor at various international antique fairs in throughout the UK and New York.
For the previous twelve years he has been in business in New York specializing in the field of 20th Century Design and Furniture. After over thirty years of experience, he is now a consultant, author, lecturer and researcher in the field of ceramics and design history.
