An auction in New Zealand has seen a record price accrued for a feather.
A feather belonging to an extinct species has sold at auction for approximately £3,800.
In what is reckoned to be the highest ever price achieved for such an item, the brown and white huia bird rarity has been picked up at Webb's Auction House in Auckland, New Zealand.
Neil Campbell, managing director for the auctioneers, outlined his welcome surprise at seeing the feather reach such a high value.
He explained: "Starting in $100 increments, that quickly leapt into the thousands and came to rest at a world record price (for a single feather) of $8400."
The unidentified seller had owned the item ? which was typically used to decorate Maori figureheads - in their family for generations.
In other news, those seeking pop and film memorabilia valuations might have noted that a necklace worn by singer Lady Gaga was recently put up for sale through Winnit.com.
The item was worn by the star in the video for the hit Poker Face single.
