Those on the lookout for pop and film memorabilia valuations might have noted the recent sale of one rare item.
The handwritten lyrics of John Lennon for the Beatles' 1967 hitA Day In The Life have been purchased at auction for $1.2 million(£810,000). Despite the estimate being approximately half the eventualprice, an anonymous American collector secured the item atSotheby's in New York.
The sheet contains alternative lyrics and some collections forthe song, which capped off the Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Bandalbum. David Redden, international chairman of the auction house'sbooks and manuscripts department, stated: "The outstanding priceachieved for these handwritten lyrics is testament to the iconicstatus of The Beatles, John Lennon and especially this song."
Although the page has a small, mended tear and some stains, thetext is unaffected. News of the purchase may inspire anyone on the lookout for musicvaluations this year. Meanwhile, anyone seeking book valuations might have noted thatSotheby's recently sold an unpublished Mark Twain manuscript for$242,500.
