On August 20th, RM Auctions held a classic car sale where the world record for a Mercedes-Benz was broken when it went for a fantastic price of $9,680,000.
In Monterey California, RM Auctions set a new world record for a Mercedes-Benz at auction going for an impressive $9.7 million. The sale was held on, August 20th by RM Auctions which is the world's leading auction house for collectible, vintage, and rare cars. The sale in total saw many lots reaching that all important million dollar mark. The highlight though was the impressive 1937 Mercedes-Benz 540 K Spezial Roadster going to an anonymous bidder. Other top gets were a 1960s Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta Competizione that was picked up for just under $5.3 million.
Not only did the sale see the record price for a Mercedes-Benz, RM Auctions also saw a record number of bidders registering from across the globe. With items like these, the bidding wars continued long into the night. Along with both the Mercedes-Benz and the Ferrari, there were a total of ten other lots that also reached the million dollar mark making this one of the most successful sales nights for RM Auctions. It surely seems that the market for collectible cars is good and healthy after this sale!
