Retired bricklayer Peter Beasley has sold items such as a Roman pendant worn by Caesar for £30,000 and will flog a Norman ring this year for an £80,000 guide price, the Daily Telegraph reports.
The 68-year-old also achieved a sale of £100,000 to the British Museum in 1996 for 250 Roman coins discovered near Peters field. He was quoted by the publication as saying: "I am fascinated by the history of our land and it is the buzz of finding something -it is a great feeling to dig something up that you know is hundreds of years old."
Previously, BBC News reported that 200 items belonging to Laura Ashley such as antique furniture achieved £18,000 at auction this week. Among the purchases were a 19th-century desk stand and a replica of a ship's cannon.
