On July 6th, Sotheby's will hold their Old Masters and British paintings sale in London. The sale includes many wonderful examples of priceless landscapes and portraits as well as figure paintings.
One of the most impressive pieces of Italian craftsmanship is a painting by Antonio Allegri (Correggio) depicting the Madonna, Child, and Saint John the Baptist. The piece is estimated at £2,000,000-3,000,000. Pieter Brueghel the Younger is also represented with a great genre work that is sure to generate lots of interest with an estimate of £800,000-1,200,000. John Constable is also represented with a landscape of Salisbury Cathedral from the Meadows estimated at £500,000-700,000. But, the greatest highlight of the whole sale is the Francesco Guardi landscape of Venice, a View of the Rialto Bridge, Looking North. The impressive price tag of £15,000,000-25,000,000 will surely make this sale an event to watch.
