A set of bizarre creatures - such as a yeti and a unicorn - are to be sold at auction this month.
A collection of rather interesting animals - supposedly brought to the UK during the Victorian era - has been valued and is to be put up for auction this month. Taking place at Dukes in Dorchester on the 13th, the set includes a seven-foot yeti - going by the name of Yeti Gigantes Abominales, or the abominable snowman - a unicorn and a bat with webbed feet.
The creatures were part of an exhibit amassed by the possibly fictional Professor Copperthwaite, on display at the Isle of Wight's Brading Experience museum. Because the gallery is now closing due to lack of public interest, they are being sold off.
However, they are to be put under the hammer alongside a range of real animals, such as a tiger that has been stuffed mid-leap.
"The standard of some taxidermy is excellent. The tiger is very good and could reach a figure in the thousands," Matthew Denny of Duke's was quoted by the Daily Mail as saying.
