A diamond necklace and a ring were taken from the European Fine Art and Antiques Fair.
The European Fine Art and Antiques Fair (Tefaf) which closed yesterday has been the victim of a crime, with a diamond necklace and a ring stolen from the event. These pieces of antique jewellery - valued at 860,000(£776,623) - were taken between 17:00 and 18:00 local time and the police have launched an investigation into the matter.
A spokeswoman for the venue was quoted by the Herald Sun assaying: "A ring with a big sapphire and a diamond necklace belonging to London jeweller Hancock were stolen.'' This year's show saw 73,000 people attend, with over 260 art and antiques dealers presenting some 30,000 sculptures, antique paintings and antique furniture, as well as manuscripts, china and clothes.
Its biggest sale was a picture by Lukas Cranach of Germany from1534 - David and Bathsheba - which was bought for ?5.3 million. Colin Gleadell of the Daily Telegraph recently called Tefaf "the most important" fair on the calendar, noting that it attracts museum curators.
